'Tom has ideas. Sometimes they're even good ideas. And what should every citizen do when they have an idea for their community? Take it to the Mayor! '
Tom Goes To The Mayor is yet another interesting, over-the-top [adult swim] animation, originally broadcast back in 2004-2006, created by the inventors of awesome Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric Awesome Show...Great Job!). The show began as an internet-based cartoon on the Tim & Eric website. It was deemed popular enough to get a sequel and a spot on the late-night programming block on the Cartoon Network.
The show is uniquely animated using still photographs of its actors, mixed with live action and cartoon backdrops in the town of Jefferton, however there are some 'live action' scenes however, usually brodcast on the TV screens in the town (T&E Awesome Show characters Jan & Wayne Skylar even make an appearance). In each episode, Tom Peters (played by Tim Heidecker) visits the Mayor's office (played by Eric Wareheim) "full of ideas" however the mayor tweaks these otherwise great ideas in order for them to backfire. Then, basically the rest of the 11 minute episode follows the build-up and demise of the big idea.
Discovered and produced by Bob Odenkirk (responsible for such hits as Movie 43, Breaking Bad, Saturday Night Live, plus heaps more), the show contrains a huge range of guest stars including Jack Black, Jeff Goldblum, Sarah Silverman, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Tom Kenny and many more.
Overall, I must admit, I'm not as big a fan of this show as I would have liked. After 'binging' on the Tim & Eric Awesome Show, my expectations were a little high for this series. As this was created prior to Awesome Show, it goes to show that the boys were definitely heading in the right direction in terms of their comedy style/genre. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next!
