"The Doug Anthony Allstars (DAAS) escape into the void. Alien assassins and psychos attack. DAAS KAPITAL features Original Songs and Bizarre Comedy. After a long legal battle, the series that rocked Japan is out!
DAAS are Paul McDermott, Richard Fidler and Tim Ferguson - Australia’s most outrageous comedy export.
DAAS Kapital was a sitcom that incorporated sketch show and variety show TV formats, similar to 'The Chaser'. Each episode's plot usually consisted of a very simple idea, such as a bug infestation on board or a Cinderella-style story mixed with segments of actual tv shows, musical acts, stop motion animation and guest appearances, strung together with very quick jokes, narrative humour and stories told by the Allstars."
DAAS Kapital is one of those classic TV series' that has to be seen to be believed! After first discovering The Doug Anthony All-Stars from watching Paul McDermott on Good News Week a few years ago, I've gradually grown to take a liking to the trio. Their unique style of bizarre and controversial comedy was always going to attract a different audience to the usual ABC crowd.
Episodes of DAAS Kapital have been on YouTube for years, but now, finally, they are available to purchase in store. This special release comes about 11 years after the series finished up on the ABC. Paul, Tim and Richard are on the Titanic 2, Shitsu Tonka's submarine museum to catalogue world's history.
The show is known for its numerous other recurring characters throughout both series', including Flacco (played by Paul Livingston), Bob Downe (played by Mark Trevorrow), and my personal favourite, Psycho Bob (played by Michael Petroni).
'Troy The Invincible' and 'Uncle Biff Happy' are my favourite cut-away segments from the show. They are not at all related to the episode on-goings, but are hilarious non-the-less!
It's fantastic to see some never before seen snaps on the DVD's photo gallery, and hear the gang back together again chatting for the DVD's audio commentary and performing the first new All Stars song for years.
All in all, this is a great DVD set to re-live for those who enjoyed it all those years ago, die-hard fans of DAAS, and an interesting experience for those discovering it for the first time.
