Rugrats Season 1 & 2

Aussie Comedy Kingdom
Published by in DVD Reviews ·

'What's better than a clean diapee and a fresh bottle? How about the first-ever, 25-episode, 4-disc set of the complete First Season of Rugrats! It's Tommy, Angelica, Chuckie and the rest of the gang, taking you on adventures from the ground up. So c'mon, don't be a baby. Sit back and laugh along as the Rugrats turn the ordinary into the extraordinary; where a trip into the basement becomes a scene out of a Jules Verne classic and a broken lamp leads to courtroom drama (okay, the 'courtroom' is in the bedroom, but...).'

Wow, didn't this bring back some awesome childhood memories! Beyond Home Entertainment have really done it here in releasing a whole swag of older Nickelodeon shows on DVDs to relive some classic and groundbreaking moments in childrens television. And Rugrats would definitely have to be one of my favourites from all those years ago.

Rugrats was more than a kids television show; it became a touchstone for a generation of children during its long running broadcast on ABC during the 1990s. The multi-award winning series transcended age barriers and was singlehandedly responsible for the success of the fledgling Nickelodeon network. Now the misadventures of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil and Angelica can be enjoyed once again by generations of Australian fans.

Quite obviously, the best place to start reliving the awesomeness of Rugrats was at the beginning, season 1 episode 1 titled 'Tommy's First Birthday'. As soon as the opening titles rolled, so too rolled in those nostalgic memories! Even though I don't recall ever watching this episode multiple times, I could remember almost everything that occurred. All the characters names and traits and the setting of the Pickle household came flooding back in as if it were only yesterday I watched an episode, when in reality its been probably over 10 years!

Into the second season of 26 more episodes, there are many more classic adventures to be had! Be there when Angelica has her first crush, Didi is visited by her mentor - worth famous child care expert Dr. Lipschitz - and Tommy visits the dark side (for a few minutes!). And there's a whole lot more!

One downside is the lack of special features on the DVD but the 51 episodes contained across the 5 discs kinda makes up for that! If you were a child of the 90's and remember getting up early and rushing home after school to catch the hilarious and intriguing set of kids shows on the ABC, then I cannot recommend any higher collecting all these classic Nick shows on DVD. Not only is there Rugrats, but you can also collect shows like CatDog, The Wild Thornberrys, Hey Arnold!, Ren & Stimpy plus many more. And if your a person with little ones today, get these and show them to your kids. Give them a break from all the amazing 3D animations that have taken over the world of the simple 24fps 2D animation, take a step back in time and enjoy!
