'Alan Davies makes a triumphant and long-awaited return to stand-up with his first live gig in more than a decade. Recorded live at Hammersmith Apollo the hilarious new show, Life Is Pain, covers every aspect of the modern condition. '
Finally, after a LONG hiatus from the stand-up comedy scene, QI's Alan Davies is back with this hilarious performance filmed live in London at the Hammersmith Apollo - Life Is Pain.
While famous as an actor – the titular role in BBC hit Jonathan Creek – and a household star for his role as Stephen Fry’s foil on QI, Alan was sorely missed from live stand-up. His first show back is a glorious insight into Alan’s unique worldview – growing up in the ‘70s, losing his mother as a little boy, Buddhists, phone etiquette sex toys and being a father are just some of the subjects he tackles.
This 70 minute performance is filled with many laugh out loud moments, which I find is becoming more and more uncommon in the last few years. The absolute best moment from this performance is Alan's rant on the vagaries of Facebook. Us Facebook users really do assume a lot of things when we 'Poke' and 'Friend Request people'. I guarantee, you will be gasping for air during this performance!
Also included in the DVD are three bonus features - a very insightful interview with Alan Davies, and two hilarious deleted moments from the live Apollo performance: Cruise Missiles - what would you do when you heard the 4 minute warning...apparently most people would have sex! Curly Blokes - two blokes in Alan's audience who have more curls than him! Which leads to the question, what makes your hair go curly?
Old fans of Davies' stand-up performances and lovers of Qi will definitely enjoy this special stand-up performance. Let's just hope that this is the first of many new releases from Alan's stand-up to come...
Alan Davies will be touring Australia this March 2014 to all capital cities around the country. Ask Mr Google for more info on tickets and dates.
