Cartoon Network's Amazing Regular Adventure Boxset

Aussie Comedy Kingdom
Published by in DVD Reviews ·

'This boxset combines the awesome heroics of Finn and Jake, the lovable silliness of Gumball and the extreme slackness of Mordecai and Rigby. What a great gift for the Cartoon Network fan in your life!'

This great collectable box set brings together 3 of the Cartoon Network's most popular animated shows in one easy package, just in time for Christmas. Adventure Time, Regular Show and The Amazing World Of Gumball are the three programs brought together in this one boxset that provides hours of entertainment for the kiddies and us older kiddies!

Regular Show Slack Pack
Two groundskeepers, Mordecai (a 6-foot tall blue jay) and Rigby (a hyperactive raccoon) are best friends who spend their days trying to entertain themselves by any means necessary, much to the displeasure of Benson (their boss - a gumball machine) and to the delight of of Pops (an older, lollipop-headed gentleman).

Regular Show is surprisingly very entertaining for a show that's mainly aimed at primary school children. The series revolves around the daily lives of two 23-year-old friends, Mordecai - a blue jay, and Rigby - a raccoon. They work as groundskeepers at a park and spend their days trying to avoid work and entertain themselves by any means. This is much to the chagrin of their boss Benson - a gumball machine and their coworker Skips - a yeti, but to the delight of their manager Pops - a man with a lollipop for a head. Other coworkers include an overweight green man called Muscle Man, a ghost called Hi-Five Ghost, and an intern goat called Thomas.

Whether you decide to grab this box set to check out Regular Show, or get the various compilation titles on their own, I think almost anyone can enjoy the humour throughout the series.

The Amazing World Of Gumball - Volume 1
Gumball's world is pretty run-of-the-mill. He's chased around school by a T-Rex. He has a friend named Anton who's a piece of toast. He's got a crush on Penny, a peanut with antlers. His dad is a 6'4 bunny. His mom works at a Rainbow Factory. And his brother is a goldfish named Darwin. Yup, everything looks perfectly normal here.

World Of Gumball is probably the DVD I enjoyed the least from this collection. It is really aimed at children (hence the 'G' classification, as opposed to the 'PG' for the other two titles) although there are some adult gags scattered throughout.

Gumball is a blue 12-year-old cat who repeatedly gets himself into troublesome situations. Throughout the series, he is shown to have very limited intelligence, much like his father; although he has been shown to be able to think for himself, his plans often end up backfiring and leading him into trouble. Darwin, a goldfish, is Gumball's best friend and adoptive brother. Initially given to Gumball as a pet, Darwin later sprouted legs and subsequently became a full member of the Watterson family.

Adventure Time Collection 2: It Came From The Nightosphere
Adventure Time is back by popular demand with 16 new episodes on DVD. The Cartoon Network's Emmy® nominated series that centers on the post apocalyptic adventures of Finn, a human boy with a funny hat, and his friend Jake, a magic and mischievous dog, comes back to DVD in “It Came from the Nightosphere”, packed with 16 new, fun, and exciting episodes from the three magical seasons.

Adventure Time is the show I enjoyed the most from this collection. Loved by millions around the globe, this is definitely the biggest and best show from Cartoon Network in recent years, and it's easy to see why. I really didn't know what to expect when I first watched the show, although a friend of mine described it as being created by people who were high on drugs, which is a possibility!

The series follows the adventures of Finn, a human boy, and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake, a dog with magical powers to change shape and grow and shrink at will. Ward describes Finn as a "fiery little kid with strong morals", while Jake is based on Bill Murray's character Tripper Harrison from Meatballs. Finn and Jake live in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Along the way, they interact with the other main characters of the show: Princess Bubblegum, the Ice King, and Marceline the Vampire Queen.

Overall, this collection is a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone aged from 5 - 35 years old! It's also a great, cheap way to investigate these three shows to those who are unfamiliar and curious as to what all the rage is about! A great buy!
